Useful Tips For Beginning Teachers
Useful Tips For Beginning Teachers
1. Be organised, prepared & know what you have to teach
2. Get to school early & leave late
3. Ask lots of questions & don't be afraid to ask for help and support
4. Prioritise tasks on your to do list and don't get too overwhelmed
5. Be a listener not an advice giver with your fellow staff members
6. Find a balance between work and home life
7. Always have a plan B ready
8. Treat children how you would want to be treated. Show them respect and they will show you it back.Look behind a child's behaviour there are usually many reasons as to why they are misbehaving
9. Network with other beginning teachers either personally or via email
10. You are not alone - all beginning teachers are going through this
11.Try new things until you find what works best for your students
12.Work smart, not harder

Be the teacher, not their chum:
The mental attitude you need to succeed is ‘They are here to learn, and my job is to help make that happen.’ Don’t try to be their friend because they’re not- they need rules, boundaries, and an adult who will treat them with manners and civility, to encourage them to do the same. But never forget that you are an authority figure with a responsibility for their education. You’re not an entertainer, although you may be entertaining. You’re not a confidante, although you may also serve that function; you’re not their mate, although you may eventually
grow to like each other.
You’re the teacher. So be the teacher.
